On February 2, 2023, Capital Area Michigan Works! had the honor of participating in the Phi Beta Sigma Youth Workshop at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center. Education Officer Amirika Richardson and Business Services Representative John Adams led three interactive career workshops designed to empower and inform students about their future pathways.

The goal was simple yet powerful: to help students make real connections to career opportunities and give them a space to ask questions, explore interests, and build confidence in their next steps.

In addition to the workshops, the event featured 10 dynamic career stations in the main hall, where students could explore various industries, talk with professionals, and gather valuable resources. Represented organizations included:

  1. Capital Area College Access Network (CapCAN)

  2. Lansing Community College (LCC)

  3. Lansing Fire Department

  4. Michigan Department of Corrections

  5. Michigan State University (MSU)

  6. Military Careers

  7. MSU Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU)

  8. Public Safety – Michigan State Police (MSP)

  9. Skilled Trades – LCC

  10. Sparrow Hospital

A big thank you to Milton Scales and Darrell King for the invitation and for creating a space where students can grow, explore, and build their futures. Events like these highlight the power of community partnerships and youth engagement in preparing the next generation for success.

At CAMW!, we’re proud to be part of opportunities that bring education, industry, and inspiration together under one roof.
